Classic French Steak Tartar

Classic steak tartar is made with raw beef. The must-have ingredients are capers, onions, Worcestershire sauce and good mustard. Finish it off with a egg yolk, crackers or croutons, salt and pepper and you have a classic yet simple dish. Once prepared, the steak tartar should be served immediately since eating raw beef can be risky. Enjoy this delicious tartare with some fresh greens dressed lightly in vinaigrette.

Ingredients

  • - 500g of lean beef, minced
  • - 2 tablespoons of capers, finely chopped
  • - 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • - 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • - 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
  • - 1 egg yolk
  • - Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. 1. Place the minced beef in a large bowl.
  2. 2. Add the capers, onion, Worcestershire sauce and mustard. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  3. 3. Form the mixture into a ball and flatten it on a plate or cutting board.
  4. 4. Make an indentation in the center and add the egg yolk.
  5. 5. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste and serve immediately with crackers or croutons and fresh greens dressed lightly in vinaigrette.

Notes

Be sure to use freshly minced beef for this recipe as it is served raw!
